WAKE UP SLEEPING BRIDE

3 Feb

“…These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.”.. Revelation 3:1

It was for you, my Bride, that I was whipped and scourged

It was for you, my Bride, that I was mocked.

It was for you, my Bride, that I walked that bloody trail

And hung and died on the Cross.

Wake up, Sleeping Bride, wake up! Wake up!

Arise out of your slumber!

Wake up, Sleeping Bride, wake up! Wake up!

And let the world watch with wonder.

It was for you, my Bride, that I rose again.

It was for you that I said “Go ye therefore..”

It was for you, my Bride, that I will come again.

Look for the coming of the Lord!

Wake up, Sleeping Bride, wake up! Wake up!

Arise out of your slumber!

Wake up, Sleeping Bride, wake up! Wake up!

And let the world watch with wonder.

It was for you, my Bride, that I sent my Spirit

To comfort and to reveal.

It was for you, my Bride, that He gave gifts

To baptize and to heal.

So..

Wake up, Sleeping Bride, wake up! Wake up!

Arise out of your slumber!

Wake up, Sleeping Bride, wake up! Wake up!

And let the world watch with wonder.

It is for you, my Bride, that my heart is broken.

It is for you, my Bride, that I cry.

I long for you to make sure my Word is spoken

And tell others how I give life!

So…

Wake up, Sleeping Bride, wake up! Wake up!

Arise out of your slumber!

Wake up, Sleeping Bride, wake up! Wake up!

And let the world watch with wonder.

THERE IS A GOD AND YOU’RE NOT HIM!!!

2 Kings 22 tells about King Josiah. Josiah was an amazing King…having taken the throne when he was eight years old. He had restored worship of God back to Jerusalem.

But in this chapter, he is read the Word of God and something interesting happens. Josiah tears his clothes and begins to weep uncontrollably. Why? Because as Josiah heard the Word of God, it was like looking in the mirror. It revealed to him that in spite of all his goodness, there were still things in his life that dishonored God. He could not just focus on the good things about himself. God wanted him to also look to what could be improved in order to make him a better servant.

Maybe that’s why some of us are uncomfortable reading the Word of God. Maybe that’s why Bibles stay on shelves and collect dust. We use excuses like “it’s boring”.. “it’s outdated”. But maybe that’s not the real reason.

Maybe it’s because the Bible is too much like a mirror. We like to imagine ourselves looking great (every hair in place, impeccably dressed). But then we stand in front of the “looking glass”. And we find we buttoned our shirt wrong, there is a cowlick that wn’t stay down. And we wish we had never looked in the mirror!

But what do we do then? We don’t walk off and leave everything in disarray. We start buttoning the shirt right! We fix that cowlick! We do what needs to be done!

Shouldn’t it be the same way with the Word of God? It reveals to us what is not right in our lives. We become convicted. We repent. We fix what’s wrong.

That’s what Josiah did!

Let Freedom Ring

The first Bible I ever received other than from my relatives was a red New Testament in the fifth grade. It was given by Gideons International. This is a group of individuals dedicated to spreading the Word of God anywhere and everywhere they can. If you see a Bible in a motel or hospital room, it was usually placed there by this organization.
I was excited to receive this. I had seen Bibles before but for some reason, this was special to me. I remember sitting at my desk and opening up to find the following verse inscribed on the front page underneath a drawing of the American flag.
“Righteousness exalteth a nation but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34)”.
This verse has stuck in my mind ever since. I have memorized many a scripture since that day but this was one of the first I ever committed to memory.
Like every other verse in the Word of God, it rings true.
I have long been proud to be an American. This is a nation founded by Christian men on the motto “In God We Trust”. This is a nation that recognized that it needed God to succeed.
For the longest time, this nation clung to that knowledge. We prayed at schooltime. We were open and vocal about our faith. We were not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
That’s all changed now.
Now, we are subject to a lawsuit if we pray in school. We are subject to government prosecution if we are too open about our faith. We dare not speak out against sin for fear that it might be perceived by others as “imposing our morality on them.”
Why has this changed? Those who advocate such changes remind us that this is a free country and that we cannot impose our religion on others.
But I think their definition of freedom is warped.
What is freedom? It is not the absence of responsibility. It is not the total right to act in any way we choose and not suffer natural or logical consequences.
Then what is freedom?
I hearken back to God’s word.
“You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free (John 8:32).”
“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life…(John 14:6)”.
The Truth is Jesus Christ.
And only in a relationship with Him can true freedom be found.
Only when a nation looks to Him can it be truly free.
And only when we look to Him as Americans are we truly exalted.
Let Freedom Ring!

WORDS OF WISDOM

3 Feb

I was just wanting to remind you of a couple of things I know you know but things that need to be repeated in light of this kind of tragedy.

God is in control.

We need to be thanking GOD that we know the GOD that is control.
We need to be thanking GOD that we can pray to the GOD that is control.
Let’s make sure we do what God says to do in John 6:29. When he was talking to the people that followed him after they had been fed the five loaves and two small fish, he told them, when they asked what work they were to be doing, “your work is to believe on him who God has sent.”
Let’s be believing that GOD is control.
Let’s be believing that GOD does not perpetrate this madness but He wants us to have faith in His control.
Also, our work is not to panic.
And, our work is not to cause or to pass on panic.

Let’s remember to have a God scale kind of Faith and Belief.
