Sometimes I don’t enjoy reading my Bible.

I know that’s strange words coming from a preacher.

But I have to be honest.

And it’s true.

Sometimes reading my Bible makes my stomach turn. It  makes me angry. I want to turn away in disgust.

But don’t misunderstand. It’s not because I don’t believe it’s true. I believe the Bible to be the inerrant Word of God.. without any mixture of error.

Perhaps it’s because it’s too powerful.

The book of Hebrews tells me that the Word of God is living and active and “sharper than any two edged sword”.

Which means that sometimes the Words of that Book cut. And expose.

I read it and I begin to realize sin areas in my life. Times of hypocrisy, lust, greed, envy. I see times where I put myself before God. Times when I am not the husband, father, or even pastor that God called me to be.

And it makes me uncomfortable. It makes me nauseous. It makes me angry.

But in that same Book, I also find the antidote. I find grace. I find love. I find direction.

And then I know that I CAN be the person taht God called me to be… if I just put my faith and trust in Him. If I just deny what I want in favor of what He wants.

On second thought, sometimes I do enjoy reading my Bible.
